Empowering educators to rediscover passion, purpose, and potential in their work so all learners can embrace the ripple effects of education.
Rebus supports changemakers across all levels of education through professional learning, expert consulting, and communities of peers. In turn, our practitioners' work makes learning more affordable and accessible, transforms classrooms and strengthens institutions and communities far beyond their own.
Your gift funds what grants don't – access to our programs, services, and the operations that sustain them. Every gift extends the ripple.

The Ripple Effect of Your Gift
Open resources make the biggest ripples when educators have meaningful support to put them into practice. Through our two cornerstone certificate programs, the Open Publishing Projects Certificate (OPC) and the Supplemental Materials Development Certificate (SMC), Rebus helps practitioners bring open materials to life and build the case for their work. Support a facilitator or donate towards a scholarship!

One Gift, Global Impact
Every pin on this map marks the province, state, or territory where our work has taken root, whether at an institution, with a fellow, or with a partner. And every resource our community creates under an open license travels further still, reaching classrooms and learners across borders and oceans. Your gift helps the next ripple reach somewhere new.
Why Support Our Work
“Rebus stands out because their work is genuinely values-driven - open, collaborative, and community-first in a space where that's rarer than it should be.
That kind of organization only thrives with community support behind it.”
— Amanda Coolidge, Rebus Board
“Open education in a shared set of equitable values is the foundation of peace and prosperity for all. This is the work.”
— Boris Anthony, Rebus Board
"Many years ago I heard Brewster Kahle's talk, 'Universal access to all human knowledge,' which has been a driving force in my life. But over and over again, I learn that knowledge is never enough. The cultures built by communities of knowlege-sharers is where the real power is, and what Rebus continues to support."
— Hugh McGuire, Rebus Board
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Your donation goes to general operating support for Rebus' programs, community, and practitioner-led work. That includes the things grants don't always cover: scholarships for educators who couldn't otherwise participate in our programs, stipends for facilitators who pass on their learning, webinars and workshops for communities who need timely instruction, and the infrastructure that keeps everything running.
-
Yes. The Rebus Foundation is a Canadian registered charity (BN 775467491RR0001), and all donations are eligible for the Canadian charitable tax credit. You'll receive an official tax receipt by email from CanadaHelps shortly after your donation is processed.
If you give monthly, you'll receive a single consolidated receipt at the beginning of the following year covering all of your monthly gifts.
If you're donating from the US, please see "Can I donate from the US?" below.
-
Yes, and we welcome your support! Your gift supports the work in exactly the same way regardless of where you're giving from. A few things to know:
Donations are processed in Canadian dollars. The amount you enter on the form is in CAD, so what posts to your US card will be different depending on the current exchange rate. Your card issuer may also charge a foreign transaction fee, typically 1-3%.
You'll receive a Canadian tax receipt issued by CanadaHelps. We'd recommend checking with your tax advisor if you're unsure how this applies to your situation.
-
DescripAny amount makes a difference. The donation form includes suggested amounts, but you're welcome to enter a custom gift of any size. If you're interested in a larger contribution, a multi-year pledge, employer matching, or giving on behalf of an organization, we'd love to hear from you! Reach out to us at contact@rebus.community and we'll work together to find the right fit.
-
Yes. When you use the donation form on this page, you can choose between a one-time gift and a monthly recurring donation. Monthly giving helps us plan ahead and sustain our programs between grant cycles, and even a modest monthly gift adds up meaningfully over the course of a year.
You can update or cancel your monthly donation at any time through your CanadaHelps donor account. Monthly donors receive a single consolidated tax receipt at the beginning of the following year.
-
Yes. Rebus accepts gifts of publicly traded securities through CanadaHelps. Donating securities directly to a registered charity can significantly reduce or eliminate capital gains tax on appreciated stock, and you'll still receive a tax receipt for the full fair market value. We'd recommend consulting your financial advisor to determine the best approach for your situation.
To make a gift of securities, please use our securities donation form. The process is handled entirely through CanadaHelps.
-
Yes. All donations are processed through CanadaHelps, a PCI-compliant platform that has been securely processing charitable donations in Canada for over 25 years. All data is stored in Canadian data centres. Rebus never sees, stores, or has access to your payment details.
CanadaHelps receives the information needed to process your gift and issue your tax receipt (your name, email, and mailing address). You can read more in the CanadaHelps privacy policy.
-
We want every donor to see the ripples their gift creates. All donors, unless giving anonymously, receive our annual impact report, which shares how contributions supported our work over the past year. You can also stay connected to Rebus' work by subscribing to our newsletter and following us on social media — both are great ways to see the stories and outcomes your generosity helps make possible!
-
You can manage your recurring donation directly through your CanadaHelps donor account:
Sign in at canadahelps.org/en/sign-in
Go to the "Monthly Donations" tab
Click "Manage" next to the donation you'd like to update or cancel
Changes take effect on your next scheduled gift. For any issues with your donor account, contact CanadaHelps donor support.

For questions about Rebus' work, how your gift is used, or anything related to our programs, reach out to us at contact@rebus.community.
For transactional questions (a receipt that hasn't arrived, a payment error, or trouble accessing your donor account), CanadaHelps donor support can help. You can reach them through the CanadaHelps help centre.
